Our flight arrived into Mexico City at 3am local time!! What can you do when you arrive so early? Answer: go to Starbucks
After haggling with various taxi companies we settled on a price. It's really good as you tell the operator the address and they give you the quote. Agree, pay and take your receipt outside to the taxi bay.
We arrived in the dark to our accommodation at 5:45am. Our check in was actually 3pm!! But they had agreed to store our bags. We hadn't anticipated arriving so early so plunked ourselves down and waited until 7am when a lady came and let us in.
After we decided to find coffee. The thing is nothing seems to be open at that time. It's the strangest thing. Nothing is open. All shut. The thing about arriving at 3am is it turns everything into a fairly traumatic experience for the body and mind, especially when nothing is open!
Then at last, at about 9am we found a place that served coffee and food!!
We ordered Huevos al gusto A la mexicana. Its eggs with refried beans and tortilla.
With it being so early we just wandered aimlessly in the Condesa/Roma area. There are taco stands everywhere with locals milling around eating. The smells are simply amazing.
We found a local market -
Mercado Medellin where we took in the different fruits and veggies and produce. Such a sensory delight. Eventually we decided to chose two random dishes Pozole and Sopa azteca to eat. Again, more tortilla. Very filling!
By this time it was still only 10:30am! The day was just starting and heating up yet we were operating on a different time. We were exhausted.
Spent the rest of the time wandering around different clothes markets, coffee fairs, etc trying our hardest to stay awake.
By the evening we were incapable of doing anything so it was an early night!
