27 May 2019 Teotihuacan
What a day! We went up in a hot air balloon over Teotihuacan. Teotihuacan is a vast Mexican archaeological complex northeast of Mexico City.
It was such a calm ride over over the pyramids. Very quiet up above.

26 May 2019 - Mexico City Day 3
In the UK we have the Royal Family, in Mexico they have Frida Kahlo to draw in the tourists. Today I visited the Frida Kahlo museum which was where Frida and her husband lived. It was very busy and full of tourists, but it was a nice museum which I found interesting. 9n a side note; Frida and I share the same birthdate.
In the afternoon A and I headed out to Arena Mexico the watch some Luche Libre! Lucha libre, a.k.a. Mexican wrestling, is a way of life for many people in Mexico City and a ‘sport’ with the second highest spectator rate after football in Mexico. It's a spectacle that is utterly ridiculous, with way too much lycra, but it is so much fun to watch. The Mexicans really get into it and you cheer when they cheer. It's a really fun spectacle to see!
At the half way point we also got to experience an earthquake evacuation drill. At first I thought they were joking, but then they made us evacuate.

25th May 2019 Mexico City Day 2
We are staying in Condesa, a really lovely suburb of Mexico City. Lots of really nice cafe and restaurants. Compared to Mexican standards, it's pretty expensive. The tree lined streets are really well maintained and it just feels very relaxing.
I had a lovely breakfast at a restaurant nearby called Lardo. It was full of people with American accents.
In the morning A and I decided to go to El Bazar Sabado, which mean Saturday bazar. It's an artisanal market with stalls selling all kinds of handicrafts. The complex (both indoor and out) was packed with stalls selling all sorts of items from clothing, purses, art, trinkets, food, etc... it was all rather over whelming but oh so pretty. We both spent far longer than we had expected at the market and spent waaay too much
With our rather large haul we ended up getting an uber back to our accommodation to dump our goods. Uber in this city is crazy cheap. Literally a few pesos. I just cant believe how cheap it is!
After we ubered it again (just cant begin the describe how cheap it is) to Historico Centro and walked around and eating more food. I inadvertently managed to buy 3 hotdogs without knowing. But they were not too bad.
We finished up in a square called Plaza Garibaldi as that is where lots of mariachi bands hang around. It's a buzzing plaza with local food markets, souvenir tours, mariachi bands all over the place. It is very busy and in my opinion quite full on. We kept getting hassled by people to eat at their restaurant or go to some mariachi show. In the end we had had enough and ubered it back home.

24 May 2019 Mexico City Day 1
Our flight arrived into Mexico City at 3am local time!! What can you do when you arrive so early? Answer: go to Starbucks
After haggling with various taxi companies we settled on a price. It's really good as you tell the operator the address and they give you the quote. Agree, pay and take your receipt outside to the taxi bay.
We arrived in the dark to our accommodation at 5:45am. Our check in was actually 3pm!! But they had agreed to store our bags. We hadn't anticipated arriving so early so plunked ourselves down and waited until 7am when a lady came and let us in.
After we decided to find coffee. The thing is nothing seems to be open at that time. It's the strangest thing. Nothing is open. All shut. The thing about arriving at 3am is it turns everything into a fairly traumatic experience for the body and mind, especially when nothing is open!
Then at last, at about 9am we found a place that served coffee and food!!
We ordered Huevos al gusto A la mexicana. Its eggs with refried beans and tortilla.
With it being so early we just wandered aimlessly in the Condesa/Roma area. There are taco stands everywhere with locals milling around eating. The smells are simply amazing.
We found a local market -
Mercado Medellin where we took in the different fruits and veggies and produce. Such a sensory delight. Eventually we decided to chose two random dishes Pozole and Sopa azteca to eat. Again, more tortilla. Very filling!
By this time it was still only 10:30am! The day was just starting and heating up yet we were operating on a different time. We were exhausted.
Spent the rest of the time wandering around different clothes markets, coffee fairs, etc trying our hardest to stay awake.
By the evening we were incapable of doing anything so it was an early night!
